Laser dentistry
The
use of hard-tissue lasers to replace the drill have resulted in less
crowns being needed and less root canals. Due to their non-contact mode
of working, they do not act like a jack-hammer on your tooth, like a
drill does. Thus they help to reduce cracking, their precision reduces
the amount of tooth being drilled away and their design cools the tooth
instead of heating it during the procedure.
Sometimes, old crowns need to be replaced but the decay or the
cracks have gone underneath the gum tissue level. Without the soft
tissue laser, this would necessitate going to a gum specialist, who
would cut away the gum tissue with a scalpel – requiring stitches
and 3 months of healing. The soft-tissue laser enables Dr. Pang to
take care of the situation while doing his crown procedure, without
delay or stitches and dramatically reducing the healing time and
the pain.
Lasers are also used to perform deep cleanings and bond crowns in
place.
The latest development utilizes lasers with Cad-Cam technology to
make crowns at Dr. Pang’s office while you wait – see the section on One
Appointment Crowns.
